There are no try-outs, players are not “cut”, and all house players will be placed on a team to best match their skill and development level. The responsibility of balancing teams is led by the WCMHA Director of Recreation working with the Hockey-ops team for oversight and transparency.
The WCMHA Hockey-ops team consists of; Director of Hockey-ops, Director of Competitive, Director of Recreation and the Coach Mentor.
Each player will be evaluated on their skating, puck handling, passing, shooting, game play and team work. This is accomplished by non-partisan volunteer evaluators from a variety of different hockey backgrounds.
U9 and U11
The process will consist of one skills session, one small area game session and one game session.
U13 through U15
The process will consist of one skills session and two game sessions
Tier Declarations
Near the end of September, before each season starts, the WCMHA provides its yearly tier declaration (A,B,C) for league approval on how many teams at each tier the WCMHA could provide based on registration and evaluations.
There is no guarantee that all tier’s will be available at all levels.
Once approval or required adjustments has been received from the LCMHL on the WCMHA’s declaration, the Hockey Ops teams will then assign players to the tier’s and ensure teams are created and balanced to give each player the best opportunity to develop and succeed.
Friend requests
Each season the WCMHA makes every effort to consider friend requests. Due to the amount of friend requests received, it’s not uncommon that the WCMHA is unable to fulfill all the requests. Each friend request must be reciprocal to be taken as a priority. For example; Player A requests Player B and Player B requests Player A. We do ask that additional requests are added to the submission in the event we are able to fulfill more than one per player. There are no guarantees any friend requests will be fulfilled.
Alternatively, there are circumstances where some players and families may request not to be on the same team as others, we will also take those into consideration.
All requests must be received for consideration prior to the end of the last sort out session of your respective age group.
