Cam Harvey Memorial Scholarship

 

WCMHA is offering an educational bursary for graduating Midget players in honour of Cam Harvey who died suddenly in October of 2009, at 18-years old. Cam was a career minor hockey player for the West Carleton Warrior’s that also transitioned to part-time referee.

 

The Cam Harvey Memorial Scholarship is given in recognition of outstanding commitment to community service, athletics, and academics. This bursary reflects the achievements of a young hockey player who is committed to his or her community, athletic ability, and academic achievement. Each approved recipient will receive between $500 towards his or her post-secondary education. Bursary amounts are subject to change depending on available funds. There will be a maximum of one bursary winner awarded per year for the next ten years.

Eligibility

The WCMHA Cam Harvey Memorial Scholarship is intended for students who meet the following mandatory eligibility criteria;

  1. Presently a member in “good standing” with the West Carleton Minor Hockey Association.
  2. Registered player in the West Carleton Minor Hockey Association for a minimum of five years.
  3. A player attending a post-secondary institution during the upcoming year.
  4. Maintain a high standard of academic excellence (65% average).
  5. Active within the community (other community sport or social program)


How to Apply

  1. Candidates must complete the attached application form and submit it to the WCMHA Board of Directors by 5 pm on March 30 of the calendar year. Each application will be reviewed for a period of one week. Upon receiving the application, the WCMHA Board will contact the applicant by email/telephone and with an acknowledgement letter/email. Each applicant will be contacted by the WCMHA no later than five weeks after the application is submitted on the deadline. The successful applicant will be asked to attend the WCMHA Annual General Meeting for a presentation.
  2. Provide a one-page letter from their Head Coach supporting their request.
  3. Attachments required:
    1. Copy of High School Transcript (up-to-date version)
    2. Copy of acceptance letter to college/university
  • Only one application per household or family.
  • Applications will not be accepted if a family member has been previously accepted within one year. 
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
